Advanced Metallurgy for PGM Recovery
We are committed to efficient and effective mineral processing – the crucial step in transforming raw ore into high-value Platinum Group Metals (PGMs). Our approach involves the adoption of state-of-the-art metallurgical processes, meticulously designed for optimal PGM recovery from the Great Dyke’s unique ore. We prioritise efficiency, environmental responsibility, and the highest standards of precious metals extraction in every stage of our operations.
Our State-of-the-Art Concentrator
The Karo Platinum Project features a cutting-edge concentrator plant with a designed throughput of 220 kilotonnes per month (ktpm). Developed in close collaboration with independent experts experienced in Great Dyke concentrator operations, the facility is optimised to maximise efficiency, recovery rates, and operational reliability.
Our multi-stage processing approach is meticulously planned to ensure maximum PGM liberation and concentration:
For initial size reduction of run-of-mine ore.
To grind ore to the optimal particle size for mineral liberation.
Rougher flotation after each milling stage (MF2): The primary PGM concentration method, exploiting the minerals’ surface properties to separate them from waste.
Two cleaner circuits: High-grade and low-grade cleaners to further refine concentrate from the roughers, ensuring maximum recovery.
This advanced configuration ensures a consistent, high-grade concentrate and maximises the value extracted from every tonne of ore processed.
Ensuring Structural Integrity
The Karo TSF is a full containment facility specifically engineered for safety, stability, and environmental protection.
Key features include:
Robust Rock Fill Walls
Delivering exceptional structural integrity and long-term durability.
Secure Foundation Keys:
Anchored to competent material for maximum stability.
Downstream Construction Method:
Chosen for its enhanced stability and reduced susceptibility to liquefaction, even under dynamic load conditions.
Engineered Impoundment Wall with Extra Freeboard:
Providing a critical safeguard against over-topping in extreme weather events
This design produces a compacted rock fill impoundment with superior safety margins compared to conventional upstream facilities, aligning with our commitment to sustainable operations.
Continuous Optimisation
Achieving and maintaining peak processing performance demands constant monitoring and adaptation. At Karo Mining, our operations are supported by a continuous feedback loop, enabling real-time optimisation of plant performance.
This commitment to refinement ensures:
- Consistent throughput at design capacity.
- Maximum PGM recovery rates.
- Enhanced operational efficiency and reduced environmental impact.
Our relentless focus on performance and responsibility ensures that every tonne of ore delivers its maximum potential, directly supporting the profitability and sustainability of the Karo Platinum Project.
