Construction Progress
Turning Vision into Reality at Karo Platinum
The Karo Platinum Project is in a dynamic phase of intensive construction on the Great Dyke. The project holds a 25-year special mining lease (24 August 2026), with a 2.1 Moz open-pit reserve and an 11.2 Moz resource. Phase 1 is designed for 226 koz of PGMs a year. Tharisa plc holds 78.17% of Karo Mining Holdings as at September 2025.
Execution to date has substantially de-risked the project. Throughout this phase we remain dedicated to safety, operational efficiency, and environmental stewardship.
Key Construction Achievements
With significant progress across all construction fronts, first ore is expected in H2 2027, as announced by Tharisa plc with the special mining lease on 24 August 2026. Phase 1 is designed for 226 koz a year.
Processing Plant & Infrastructure – Design and Engineering:
Status: 100% Complete.
Significance: Provides the detailed blueprint for efficient construction, installation, and commissioning of key facilities.
Earthworks:
Status: 100% complete.
Significance:Prepares stable, level ground for the erection of major processing plant structures and supporting facilities.
Civils (Civil Works):
Status: 80% complete.
Significance:Includes foundational concrete structures for the processing plant, administration buildings, and other site infrastructure.
Procurement:
Status: 70% Complete.
Significance: Early procurement reduces risk of delays and supports on-time project delivery.
Fabrication:
Status: 37% complete .
Significance:Represents the manufacturing and assembly of key structural and mechanical components for plant integration.
Bulk Utilities (Water & Power):
Status:Fully secured.
Significance:Ensures reliable resources for ongoing construction and future operational phases.
Key Milestones to Production

Mining Tender awarded:
Status: Tender process commenced.
Significance: Secures a highly capable mining contractor to support operational start-up.
